Reading to Rescues

Curl up with a good book and the animals at MARL with our Reading to Rescues program! Snuggle up with a pup in MARL’s Real Life Room or camp out in our cage-free cat room, and share your favorite story with a pair of listening ears.

While many of our programs focus on the more active side of things, it is just as important for dogs and cats to also get a chance to settle down. Your voice will help calm your new furry friend and let them decompress during their time at the shelter.

For your safety and our animals’, at least one reader must be 18 or older to read with dogs. To read with cats, at least one person in the group must be 16 or older. Dog readers will be paired with calm, social dogs as they are available in our shelter.

Reading sessions can be scheduled between 11-5 Tuesdays through Saturdays.

To schedule your reading session, complete the form below!

We recommend completing this form about a week out from your preferred date. A MARL Team Member will be in touch within 1-2 business days to confirm your appointment.

If you have any questions, please contact MARL’s Event Coordinator, Megan Garrison, at or 248-706-6649.
